Initially charting flight paths to Mars and Venus as an interplanetary spacecraft mission planner for NASA, Mark Dwortzan now applies his writing, editing and project management skills to advance a more sustainable way of life on Earth. In addition to his work as principal of Green Village Communications, he serves as communications director for a research organization at MIT that seeks to advance a sustainable, prosperous world through scientific analysis of the complex interactions among co-evolving, interconnected global systems.
For more than two decades, Mark has produced print and web content on individuals and organizations pursuing a more sustainable future through innovations in science, technology, business, the environment and other fields. Since completing Boston University's Graduate Program in Science Journalism, he has contributed to several academic, corporate and journalistic publications, including the Boston Globe, Environmental News Network, Technology Review and WBUR (Boston's NPR News Station).
Mark came to communications after previous careers as a software developer for the healthcare and telecommunications industries in San Francisco, and as an aerospace engineer for the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.
Born in suburban New Jersey, Mark earned a B.A. in mathematics, computer science and philosophy at Cornell University; an M.S. in aerospace science at the University of Michigan; and an M.S. in science journalism at Boston University. He lives outside of Boston.
